2012 Fellow Karla Dhungana and her boss, Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz of Florida. 

Karla successfully defended her dissertation a week later and will receive

her Ph.D. in criminology from Florida State University later this year.

 

2012 Fellow Meenal Khajuria with her boss , Rep. Carolyn Maloney of New York.  

Meenal  holds an MSW from North Carolina State University and a master’s in political management from George Washington University. 

Before coming to Capitol Hill, she headed the only organization serving South Asian victims of domestic violence in North Carolina..

Rep. Lois Capps of California.  Elina holds an MSW/MPH from the University of North Carolina

as does her supervisor in the Capps office,  Adriane Casalotti (Class of 2010).

A former Peace Corps Volunteer in the Dominican Republic with an MSW from Columbia,

Monica was supervised by Deb Jessup, Class of 2008.

 


Fellow Meredith Beers holds an MPH from Tulane University, where she is pursuing

her doctorate in disaster management.  Last summer, she helped develop

an emergency plan for the National Zoo; this year, she researches chemical facilities

security for Senator Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey.

Meredith Beers (‘12) admires Kalyan Patel, son of Evelyn Yee (1997-98).   Evelyn and her husband, Nimish, provided temporary housing for Meredith and Meenal Khajuria

when they arrived in DC to discover no apartments available.

2010 classmates Elizabeth Darnall, senior legislative assistant for Rep. Carolyn Maloney,

in political science (women and gender history) at the University of Maryland.

Three of Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard’s WREI Fellows:  Deb Jessup (’06) the only nurse-midwife ever to work in the U.S. Congress; Anh Phan (’08), Anti-Hate Table Manager at the Center for American Progress, and Monica Barerra (’12), this year’s Fellow.
